For our second game, we're gonna take a stab at Castlevania: Bloodlines for the Genesis. This one is aka Vampire Killer in Japan and Castlevania: The New Generation in Europe. I also hear the European version is censored of some of the violence. This is also the game that attempts to link Castlevania to the Dracula novel.

Anyway, fire it up and tell us what you think. There are multiple characters and branching paths based on who you use, so if you find a particularly cool thing in the game, tell us all about it.

Playing as John Morris. Second stage, Greece - Atlantis Shrine. Get past rising water guy who I had trouble with yesteday, then I am attacked by a mace-swinging guard. And then an axe-swinging guard who takes my last Continue.

Yeah that part sucked. I'm currently on the level after that, I'm playing the spear guy because fuck yeah spears.

It sure does seem easier than most Castlevanias, but it's still pretty challenging.

Alright, first shot using Kega, mainly because there's no suitable Genesis flash cartridge. US version.

Some notes:
- I see that the old film motif comes into play in the intro. When did they finally stop doing this (if at all)?

- Eric Leandre vs. Chuck--er, John Morris. Even though their weapons seem to have negligible differences, I feel like the classic whip just handles better than Eric's spear. The only downsize is that you can't do the whip trick where you leave it extended and then move it around from side to side without drawing it back out again.

- It seems rather gorier than I remember when playing it last. Toto, I don't think we're in a Nintendo console any more.

- Boss 1-5 is rather easy: Just wail at him with your preferred weapon of choice. Better yet, maintain some distance and keep slinging boomerangs at him. I found Boss 1-11 even easier: If you duck behind the lower left block and keep hitting the boss on the other side, you'll have him defeated in no time.

- SEKRITS: In 1-3, on the right side of the staircase leading into 1-4, hit the pillar to reveal a book (which gives you a hefty amount of crystal power). In 1-6, to the right of the top row, hit the wall to reveal a vampire hunter's favorite food: meat! More meat can be found in 1-8 at the far right of the top row.

- Level 2-2 is pretty unforgiving, almost to the fact where you shouldn't bother with any enemies at all (none the least, the annoying spearmen who block the staircases). Even if they don't stop you by slowing you down, they have the potential to poke you over the edge to cause instant death.

I've been slacking hard on this, distracted all over the place with other games, derp.

Who'd you beat it as, Jed?

Eric Lecarde. Normally I favor the vampire killer over all Castlevania weapons, but John Morris just didn't seem as handy
with the whip.

What's the next game? We might have a small user base but lets keep this rolling.

I'll pick something out soon. Suggestions welcome though of course.
