I've got the FF1 version of the pictured WonderSwan, with Guilty Gear Petite 2. I really like the WonderSwan because it's like a thin, tiny (better?) GBA which only uses one AA. Some day I'll get more games like Klonoa, Lode Runner, Makai-Mura, Mr. Driller, Dicing Knight. Maybe a WS Crystal and Judgement Silversword some rich day. And maybe one day if I speak Japanese fluently, I'll be able to enjoy all Japanese-heavy games. It would also be fun to use the Digimon games that interact with the virtual pets. There's even an official programming/flashing kit called Wonder Witch for homebrew stuff.

Mostly came to let you all know that Makai Toushi SaGa (aka The Final Fantasy Legend) has been fan-translated, which is amazing and awesome for English-speaking SaGa fans because we only had the poorly translated, black and white, Game Boy version.

The only WS game I've played for any real amount of time thus far is the Mega Man game for it. It's not bad. Some of the levels are vertical, which is weird but alright.

I've been wanting a GP2X-type machine for a while. Pandora seems like the ultimate one, so I'm waiting for the next Pandora hardware revision, then I'll be able to emulate basically anything up to N64/PS era. I'm not sure if it can handle beyond that.

So guess what I've been playing lately?

That's right, the Virtual Boy.

It's interesting. Basically you have an ever-decreasing timer, and anytime you get hit you lose time. So it's like a slightly puzzle-action game based mostly around the ability to progress as efficiently as you can. I'm stuck on level 2, lol.

It's funny how you mentioned all the games I ever owned for it (admittedly a small amount, but still). Wario Land is indeed a superb platformer, and it's a shame to think that the platform itself kind of prohibited it from getting the audience it really deserved. Nester's Funky Bowling is a great bowling sim, but if you're not into sports then it's not going to change your mind about anything. Tetris 3D is pretty good, although out of all the games I played on an actual VB, this was the one that put the most "strain" on me, and thus, required more play breaks.

Oh, I also had a baseball and tennis game, but they were merely passable.

Makes me want to try and dig mine out again...

Jack Bros. is alright. Bound High is where it's at, though.

WARNING! POWER DEMAGOGUE

Heh! Remember when that thing was out in the stores. Couldn't afford it.

The story behind Gizmondo is like a sloppier version of Tron; when computers and crime cooperate.

Did anyone else ever own a Game Gear?

I got it for my birthday when I was, I don't know, 8 or 9. My parents thought, "He likes Sonic, and it'd be good if he had something to play on long car rides, so let's get him this thing!"

I actually did enjoy the thing, even if I did only own four games for it (3 of which were Sonic/Tails games, the 4th being Super Columns), all of which I got at the same time as the Game Gear. The biggest problem was that it took six damn batteries to work on the go. Insane.

Having pretty much a CRT monitor in the sob really sucked some juice. I bought one 10 years back just to play one for the first time in my life, and the son of a bitch monitor was constantly giving me horizontal lines, and shit. I enjoyed it, but I don't know if it was damaged, or if they just got old and started to burn out.

I would have shit a brick if I would have gotten one instead of the GB, back in the early 90's. Alas I think I preferred the GB's selection of games even though the GG blew the GB's graphics out of the water.

I don't think I ever used my Game Gear on the go. Ironically, it was a strictly at-home device.

Another problem that the Game Gear has is the screen is susceptible to crapping out before everything else, leaving you with a irritating but not quite unplayable flicker. The transitors can also blow out, leaving you with no sound, but this has never happened to me.

I still maintain the fact that the Game Gear had better ports of even their Master System counterparts. The Game Gear version of Dragon Crystal is miles ahead of the Master System version. Super Columns was another good title. Shining Force was so much like a Genesis console title, it blew me away. I will admit that the Nomad was/is a beast, though.

I still have mine, haven't touched it in many years though. I have Sonic(?) 2 , X-Men, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.. The system was definitely ahead of its time, but HUGE and with battery issues.

Have some photos of some various "other" handheld systems, including my personal favorite, the Neo Geo Pocket Color. So sexy.
