Thanks to CoreDuo, 199XChan has it's very own streaming internet radio station. It plays a hopefully entertaining selection of tracks we've picked out from some of our favorite games. I'm sure you're thinking "oh good, another station playing videogame music all the time, how original!!", but we did put forth some effort into having an actually interesting mix of both original game audio, strange arranged versions, remixes (both official and non), lyricals, and so on.

We've got a thread for the radio here so feel free to leave questions and feedback there. And if you think we are missing something important, we have that covered too, see the thread for more details.

I feel the need to promote what seems like an under-used board here on 199Xchan: /box/. It's main purpose is to post scans of things, or spritesheets, that sort of thing. But it's also a "post stuff you made" kind of board too. I've posted a lot of silly fake boxart I've made over the years on there. There's a bunch of gaming comic books and strategy guides posted as well.

In an attempt to drum up some activity on there, I'm making this newspost, and also have started a (hopefully) fun new thread where we try to hastily draw sprites from memory. Check it out here.

Just a quick notice, our translation group Opentrain has just finished up our translation of the final issue of The New Adventures of Megaman, a Brazil-exclusive Megaman comic book.

We'll be re-doing them again in the future, as these were a learning experience for us and we can probably do better the second time around, but these releases are totally readable and should have no major errors going on in them. But if they do, please let us know over on the group site.

I've noticed a couple of people coming to 199Xchan, posting a link to their TF2 youtube video, and that's it. I realize these people are trying to get a hat.

Well, anyone who posts only a tf2 youtube video is getting banned.
Anyone with other good posts who posts one, it'll probably get deleted.

It's great if you wanna hang out and enjoy the imageboard, but don't use us as a vehicle to your own personal gain. That's spam. That's against the damn rules. That's pretty fucking rude.

I've done some semi-minor board changes today that I'd like to point out.

Firstly, the Emulation board /emu/ has been merged into /hax/. It didn't get very many posts and the subjects covered by /hax/ often go hand-in-hand with emulation, so this seems like a logical move. All the posts from /emu/ have been moved onto /hax/ and are still fully accessible.

The other change is the addition of a board for traditional (ie "non-video") games, /tbl/ - The Table. Now if you've been itching to talk about your favorite CCG, paper and pencil game, or modeling project here on 199Xchan, now you can.

Both of the effected boards are within the pink section, so go check them out again, or for the first time if you've never been. I hope these changes go over well, lemme know what you think, and enjoy.

For the first game, I've chosen Mega Man The Wily Wars for the Mega Drive, as it's games most people know, but with a new way of playing (and extra content). In other site news, we've starting amassing trivia questions for IRC, and will probably soon be doing "everyone play this and comment" type activities. Stop by /fb/ to let me know what kind of games you'd like to see come up in that, or any other sort of multiplayer shenanigans we could get into.

199X could use a boost in content and traffic I think. So I'm going to be dumping some more content myself in the coming weeks, but I think I'll also go ahead and host a contest.

Here's the deal: post on 199X. Dump quality images, post interesting threads, make thoughtful replies. Whoever posts the most, or best, or some sort of yet-to-be-determined overall quality indicator over the next month, I will buy you a cheap game on steam or gog.com or something like that. My favorite poster for the month gets a 10 dollar game for free, how's that sound? Maybe even as high as a copy of Minecraft if you do a particularly good job.

Tell you friends too, if you think they've got things to contribute. Name/tripcoding not required, although it might make it somewhat easier. I'll make a thread towards the end of the month where you can go "i posted things, search my posts" for the purposes of judging easier.

So, get posting. I will too. And no, I won't declare myself the winner, don't worry. And keep in mind we want quality posting, not a bunch of terrible shitpost self replies or stuff like that.

Some of you may be aware of Kusaba's catalog mode option, but probably most of you are not. Under the post box on each board there is generally a tiny little link that takes you to a page which will show you little thumbnails of each thread on a board and a number telling you how many posts each thread has. Well, we've made some modifications to it that make it a lot more useful.

Catalog mode now has a very much more obvious link, so people who didn't know about it hopefully will try it now. We've also made the thumbnails it displays much larger so they are more easily seen. The thumbnails will also have thread subjects underneath them and the reply number is more clearly labeled.

So what does this mean? Well, you can now very easily see what threads are on any board with a quick glance just by checking it's catalog page. You can see what games are being talking about in a simple and efficient manner. I also hope that people will start to use obvious subject names when making new posts from now on, so that everyone can benefit from catalog mode even more. I've been neglecting to put game titles in subject lines myself, I'll certainly start doing it from now on.

Thanks to the always awesome Ceol of 151chan fame, we now have 199Xchan.org

Hopefully this means no more URL changes in the long-forseeable future. If you are still here via 151.chan/199X/, things will probably look weird/not work, so go to the new domain instead.

Lemme know if anything is amiss, hopefully the transition has gone as smoothly as it seems to have.

As 199X is hosted via 151chan, when they've got downtime so do we. And we've had some shitty downtime the past few weeks. Read all about why on 151's front page if you are interested. Good news is, 199X is now back, albeit with a different URL (which may or may not change back, I'll get back to you on that). Apologies for the downtime. Hopefully we won't have anything like that again for some time.

Thanks to the kindness of Rossco and the knowledge of Sazpaimon, 199XChan is finally born.

I've been wanting to make this site for a long time. I had dreamed of a niche-type imageboard dedicated to all facets of video games. I hope that this place does well and it can be an enjoyable experience for everyone.

But I know how video game boards on larger general-interests imageboards can be. I'd prefer if this place not become a total trollfest, so if you feel like trolling it up, go to /war/. That board is specifically for arguments, comparisons, and so on. Hopefully most of the rest of the boards are obvious, I'll be writing up some rules and whatnot soon enough.
