Games that were considered shitty by most but you thought were good.

I hate most games by LJN and AKKLAIM for the NES. Controls, graphics, gameplay generally sucked I thought for most of their titles. But something clicked about this one. Spooky music in the cabins, Jason always made me jump, bit of strategy, this one worked for me.

Hidden gems. Maybe you just found out about them rescently, or it was a title you just never got to but heard great things, maybe it just never got the attention it deserved.

Pic related. Its my pick.

Abadox. You fight your way through the bowels of giant mutant beast/planet/thing. This SO needs a modern remake.

I remember getting that one as an Easter gift one year as a child. Not being a major title it eventually sold for a discounted price like so many others had. Great concept, good graphics and game play. The soundtrack was pretty memorable as well. Nice pick for sure and I agree would make a sweet remake.

I always wanted this game as a kid but folks were ultra conservative (they would have made me play biblegames if they knew about them) and said it was "too gross". Now that I'm an adult with my own place and NES , I can play this game. Getting old rules.

I'm dedicating this thread to a wicked cool game that I think didn't get the attention it deserved.

Arm Wrestling by Nintendo never got a console release even though it was made by the same team that brought us our beloved Punch Out. Not to mention its a far cry better than what was suppose to be the sequel to Punch Out that Nintendo washed their hands of.... Power Punch 2. Arm Wrestling not being ultra popular I guess I can see why the game itself was only released in North America.

Incredibly under rated, never got an official console release, and looks fun as hell. Arm Wrestling, this ones for you.

Behold the mighty power of the NES Demo Unit. Its like the monolith of gaming consoles. Epic, nasty and beautiful all at the same time.

These are pretty cool. And huge. But shit, it's like an NES that holds 12 games at a time.

I had to think something like this had to be out there for exhibitions and what not but hadn't actually seen one until a more resent AVGN video.

That game you had such high hopes for but just left you asking wtf?

Captain Comic

I was on such a megaman kick and it reminded me so much of it at a glance. One look at that powdered blue cartridge and I should have known.

Games they should have never cross platformed. To the NES or from the NES. I can think of a few but here's a big pick of mine.

Maniac Mansion on NES.

Awesome on Commodore, horrible on NES.

Not to sound like an AVGN rant here but Action 52 was horrible. Alot of those games on the cartridge barely worked, some didn't! All those no name quick Buck video game companies sucked ass.

I went out of my way to buy Captain Comic cause I thought it looked a lot like Megaman. I was so disappointed... Fucking Color Dreams.

ITT: Games that define the system
These should be games that scream without a doubt, "Now You're Playing With Power!"
Pick only three so that others can have a chance to post!

Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt
Mega Man 2
Castlevania

Kirby's Adventure

Ninja Gaiden - I have yet to play any other than the original trilogy. I used to beat Ninja Gaiden (#1) at least once a day after school, and it was always fun, trying to perfect my ninja skills/speed run. I was bad-ass at this game (when I was 8, now not so much)

Contra, that was the most fun anyone could have on multiplayer for the NES. Beat it often too, just not as much at Ninja Gaiden.

Mega Man VI - The first game I ever beat in my life, I played it for a month straight before I finally got good enough to beat it in one sitting and then: Yo ho ho, a gamer's life for me!

These games defined NES for me, I agree with all others posted above though.

3 is impossible. I could easily name 25+ that defined the console. So obviously ppl personal influences will play into the mix. Here are my 3 series picks.

The Super Mario Bros Series
The Megaman Series
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Series

(Honorable mentions also go to:)

The Contra Series
The Castlevania Series
The Dragon Warrior Series

*I hope I didn't spoil anyone's lists. Kept it general with series instead of exclusive title names/numbers.
